Meet Marcia: The Real Estate Pro with a Rockstar Heart

Updated: May 1

If you haven’t met Marcia Hubbs yet, let us introduce you to one of the most radiant humans around. With nearly 40 years of experience in real estate (yep, forty!), Marcia knows a thing or two about finding the perfect home and making people feel at home, too. She kicked off her career in the GTA back in 1985, and ever since, she’s been lighting up the real estate world with her deep knowledge, dedication, and contagious smile.

Originally from Jamaica, Marcia brings her heritage to every handshake and her vibrant energy, zest for life, and that warmth that feels like sunshine on a cloudy day. She’s a proud member of the Royal LePage® Locations North team, but if you ask us, she’s kind of a local legend in her own right.

When Marcia isn’t helping clients buy or sell their homes, she’s pouring her heart into the community — supporting organizations like My Friend’s House, a safe space for women and children, and the Mobile Soup Kitchen, which helps feed those in need. She shows up, she gives back, and she makes things better just by being in the room.

Oh — and did we mention she’s in a band? Because she is. Queen M brings the music, and Marcia brings the joy. Whether she’s on stage or at an open house, Marcia makes you feel something: seen, supported, and stronger.

I asked Marcia a few questions to get to know her better and her answers did not disappoint.

How has the industry changed since you started real estate back in 1985 — and  how have you changed with it?

Real Estate is a business based on relationships. That is still the same but technology  has certainly changed in the last 40 years. In 1985 I had a pager and a pocket full of  quarters for the nearest payphone. Offers were typed on a Smith Corona typewriter  with carbon paper as there was no photocopier and computers and fax machines had  not become part of our business lives yet. Fast forward 40 years and I’m now  constantly connected by technology. I’ve had clients sign 2 million dollar deals on their  cell phones and yet the more it changes the more it stays the same. People and  relationships are what it’s all about.

What’s the most memorable home you’ve ever sold — and why?

There have been a lot of memorable sales but the one that stands out for me happened  at the beginning of Covid. A beautiful musician friend of mine, Paul Young asked me to  help his daughter and son-in-law find a home in Collingwood. The challenge being that

they were coming from the city and things were pretty tightly locked down. The trust  that Paul put in me, I’ll never forget. Kaytlyn & Josh bought their first house over a cell  phone video without ever seeing it in person. Yep that is some kind of trust right there.  Lol. Sadly Paul has now passed but will never be forgotten and his family have become  some of the dearest people in my life. Like I said, this business is all about  relationships.

What drew you to support organizations like My Friend’s House and the Mobile  Soup Kitchen?

After ending a 40-year relationship and navigating a challenging divorce, I discovered  my voice and inner strength. This journey inspired me to channel my experiences into  meaningful action, supporting organizations like My Friend’s House and our Royal  LePage Shelter Foundation. I am passionate about using my new found strength to  advocate for woman who may not have the support network I was fortunate to have,  helping them find hope and empowerment in difficult times.

The Mobile Soup Kitchen is just kindness personified. A grass roots movement of local  angels who rescue food and provide meals to some of our most vulnerable. This town  is full of really good humans that I’m proud to support where I can. I feel another deck  concert coming up this summer is support of these incredible causes.

What does “community” mean to you, and how do you foster it in your everyday  life?

My community means the world to me. It is all the people that surround and enrich the  lives of myself and my son Matt. I may or may not have met you yet but if you live here  we are all connected. Kindness goes a long way to solving some of the problems in this  world. It is said that you can’t help everybody but everybody can help somebody. My  goal is to leave this world a little better than I found it. Helping where I can & raising  awareness for the causes that speak to me all fill my heart. It takes a village.

Tell us about Queen M! How did your band come to be?

I met Craig Smith more than a decade ago and eventually we formed a cover band  called Motown and Marley. That was the vibe of our music. Craig decided we should  level up and start writing original music. He’s a master song writer, musician & producer  but I had never even written a poem. He simply told me to write about what I knew.  Well that is exactly what I did. With Craig’s guidance we co-wrote, “Colour of Her Skin”,  about my mother’s experience as a Jamaican immigrant in the 1950’s and the struggle  she had finding housing due to racism. At the time I was going thru a long difficult  divorce and wanted to write an anthem for women so we wrote “Evolution of Queen M”.  Queen M had kind of become my nickname. It was strongly suggested by our publicist  that we rebrand when releasing original music. We were told that Motown and Marley  sounded like a cover band (which it was). It was a last minute scramble just before our  first song release and the band name Queen M was floated and it stuck. Here we are  on the verge of releasing Queen M’s first EP. Stay tuned.

What’s something people are always surprised to learn about you?

The fact that most of my youth was spent as a competitive figure skater and the music I  listened to was generally show tunes. LOl.

If you could teleport anywhere for 24 hours, where are you going and what are  you doing?

I would say back to Kingston, Jamaica for a Sunday afternoon at Hellshire beach for  lobster, fried fish and festival surround by my Sistah Cuz’s Sharon & Maureen and my  whole family.

That would feed my soul.

Whether she’s matching people with their dream home, serving the community, or performing on stage, Marcia leads with heart, always. And honestly? The world’s better for it. 💛
